Before the feminist movements, all the power in the game of seduction was with the seducer. The object of seduction – the woman – was merely a passive victim who couldn’t do any more than just be seduced, and couldn’t, in any way, take the initiative herself.

But, as the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard once stated in his work ‘Fatal Strategies’, the erotic object also has power. “In our theory of desire, the subject has an absolute privilege. The subject is the one who desires. But, if one takes the theory of desire, then it isn’t the subject that desires, butthe object that seduces. This makes for the subject to be fragile, because it can only desire, whilst the object is mighty because it knows how to use its lack of desire in its advantage. It knows how to provoke, to destroy, to glorify or to discourage.”
