Last weekend, Marlies Dekkers offered a desirable and unique experience at the Kunsthal Rotterdam, during the new cultural and culinary event CHOCOLAd'AMOUR. This tasteful event was enriched with performances, workshops, lectures and demonstrations, all about chocolate!
The stand of marlies|dekkers, built out of 150kg chocolate, was inspired by 'The Symposium' of Plato; a philosophical bacchanal where chocolate stimulated the taste and lingerie stimulated the fantasy. Philosophy, lingerie and chocolate came together during the desirable chocolate experience in the dark. The visitors were seduced by a table filled with food and tableware, completely covered with chocolate, a model presenting the Desire collection, names of important philosophers out of chocolate and the delicious marlies|dekkers chocolate line.

After store openings in Antwerp, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Maastricht and Paris, the Dutch capital is getting ready for a second marlies|dekkers store. The success of the first marlies|dekkers store in Amsterdam asks for a continuation. The Nine Streets area in Amsterdam can soon enjoy Marlies Dekkers' style; her lingerie, beachwear, sunglasses, scented candles and chocolates, on a daily basis.

The new marlies|dekkers store will be located on number 18 of the very fashionable Berenstraat which is one of the Nine Streets. This area is one of the city's most delightful shopping areas and finds itself in the very heart of Amsterdam's canal district on a short walking distance from Dam Square.

The inspiring environment of designer boutiques and art galleries make it the perfect setting for Marlies Dekkers' innovative and trendsetting designs.

The official store opening will happen in December 2007.

On the 6th of August marlies|dekkers has won the prestigious and worldwide known CILA Award in New York at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in the category Best Fashion Lingerie! With the collection Dare to Bear (FW collection 2007) marlies|dekkers had to compete with more than 80 brands and entered the final with 4 other consolidated, international brands: Christian Lacroix, Elle MacPherson, John Galliano and Chantelle.

The jury was positively surprised by the innovative style of the marlies|dekkers lingerie, its originality in design and print that makes marlies|dekkers very distinguished in the world of fashion lingerie.

David LaChapelle is considered controversial, explosive, provoking and the most famous photographer alive. Celebrated as the Fellini of photography, LaChapelle has photographed personalities as Leonardo DiCaprio, Andy Warhol, Hilary Clinton and Paris Hilton, just to name a few.

His book 'Heaven to Hell' (2006) is the last chapter in a trilogy that started with the New York Times bestseller LaChapelle Land (1996), followed by Hotel La Chapelle (1999) which is one of the most sought after and collected photography books of all times.

In his book 'Heaven to Hell' David LaChapelle made a photograph called Bliss Spreads (p.86). The woman in the picture wears the Spider bra, one of the most famous lingerie designs of Marlies Dekkers. Marlies Dekkers feels honored that such a great artist has photographed one of her designs.

Monday evening the 21st of May Marlies Dekkers was a guest at the 8th John Kraaijkamp Musical Awards Gala. During this special event Holland’s most important musical prices are handed out. As a famous Dutch designer Marlies had the honour to hand out the award for Best Designer.
The award went to Jan Aarntzen, who was responsible for the design and costumes of the musical Rembrandt.
 

Inspired by the book ‘Stout’ of Heleen van Royen and Marlies Dekkers, the Dutch/Belgian band Gare du Nord asked Marlies Dekkers to create the design for the cover of their new album Sex ‘n’ Jazz (see page 'Stout'). The way they combined the exciting and adventurous aspects of sex with classy jazz music appealed to Marlies Dekkers.

People who buy ‘Stout’ can also download the single Jazz ‘n’ Sex for free. When Heleen and Marlies appeared as guests in the Pauw & Witteman television show to promote ‘Stout’, Gare du Nord performed and played their new single Sex ‘n’ Jazz.

The first edition of the album Sex ‘n’ Jazz was already sold out in the first week. It entered the Mega Album Top 100 on number 16, which is unprecedented high, especially for the genre of lounge music. Striking detail is that particularly women buy the album and fall for the cover. In Belgium the album will be launched on the 28th of May.

On Thursday the 26th of April Marlies Dekkers celebrated the official opening of her sixth store, this time in Paris. The new marlies|dekkers store is located in the Saint Germain area on rue du cherche-midi. From now on the French capital can enjoy Marlies Dekkers' lingerie, beachwear, sunglasses and more on a daily basis. She is proud to open her own store in the city known as the Mecca of both fashion and lingerie.

Famous Dutch radio dj Edwin Evers handed over the 100.000th copy of the book 'Stout' to the writers Marlies Dekkers en Heleen van Royen. This happened Thursday morning 12 April during his show 'Evers staat op' on Radio 538. Because 100.000 copies have been sold, a special sewn and numbered limited luxurious edition has come out with Foreign Media Books/HvR.

Thursday evening the 12th of April Marlies Dekkers received a special distinction from the deputy of Oosterhout, Eddi Oolhorst. As business woman of the year 2007 and successful entrepreneur, the council decided to surprise Marlies during her visit to the MKB Oosterhout where she gave a presentation. Marlies was very surprised and honoured to receive the distinction.

On Thursday the 5th of April Marlies Dekkers officially opened her fifth store, this time in the Dutch fashion city Maastricht. Especially for the occasion the beautiful building on Plankstraat number 4 had been transformed into the 'Funambule' theme, relating to the colourful circus and the so called tightrope walking.

Today, the marlies|dekkers company has grown into a business with 125 employees, 1000 selling points worldwide and offices in Rotterdam, Beverwijk and Hong Kong. Furthermore, the lingerie designer has her own stores in The Netherlands, Belgium and Thailand followed by two store openings in Maastricht and Paris. We can definitely state that Marlies Dekkers is on her way to conquer the world with her ground-breaking, trendsetting lingerie.

'When I heard it, I wasn't actually that surprised. Sometimes it felt as though I was tackling the world with seven league boots on my feet. The working mothers of my generation (1965) were still being sacked if they got pregnant, and now I've been chosen as businesswoman of the year!
